What today’s song addition to the “Mixed Up Files” series lacks in musicality, it makes up for in topicality.
The song is called “Guilt Kills.” (listen for free in the player below.)
Here are the lyrics:
Guilt Kills
Don't do it
Guilt Kills
Don't do it
Poverty is the enemy
Poverty is the enemy
IF cash is king
then who's the king?
Power.
IF cash is king
then who's the king?
Power.
If Cassius Clay
Is Muhammad Ali
Then who are we?
Everyone else.
Bow down to man
Bow down to woman
Bow down to yourself
Roll around in it.
I played this song for my kids in the car about twenty minutes ago when I picked them up from school and my daughter said, “Maybe you should put one of your good songs on the newsletter this week!”
My son just said, “Yep, that’s weird.”
This song purports to be topical because of Trump’s guilty verdict.
Technically, one could say the “guilt” in the song refers more to an emotional state of mind than a legal fact, but let’s not split hairs.
It gives me pleasure that Dumb Donald was found guilty.
Call it schadenfreude, call it what you will.
That dude is not well.
I remain your humble servant,
OX&C,
Faux Jean
P.S. I was honored to be profiled in this podcast that fake denim acolyte Alan Thomas hosted over on Spotify; give it a listen if you’re so inclined.
Love the song. Couldn't tell if it was written for: (and these were my thoughts in order: one's child, past self, future self, current self. Or maybe just a song. Or to the wind. Going to read your description now.
