Hola Fauxs!
I hope you are better than I am today.
The good news is that my morning Covid test was negative.
But I’ve got that cold-sweat delirious vibe happening.
Thankfully, my daughter brought some levity to this delirium by crafting a Faux Jean wig from yarn (which will actually be used for a stuffed animal horse thing).
But I did manage to muster a song addition to the “Mixed Up Files” and here it is for your listening pleasure:
I came across this demo version from 1997 that I had completely forgotten about.
I was playing a different version of this song live with Gene Wire and Echt Engel back in the 2010-12 era. At the time, I thought the song was new-ish, couldn’t really remember where it came from. And it was strictly a love song about a boy and a girl—human stuff.
The thing about this demo that makes me laugh though, is the third verse. (See below)
It’s all about my car.
I’m singing to my car.
If you watched the Freddie Mercury biopic, as I did, the scene where they’re talking about the song “I’m In Love with my Car,” and how dumb it seems, etc. Were you nodding along?
I was.
How absurd to sing about one’s car in that way.
And yet, here is this document, this mixed up file, this song that I poured my heart into in 1997, professing an emotional relationship with my car.
Zut alors.
I remain your humble servant
OX&C,
Faux Jean
Here are the lyrics:
I'm so mad at myself
And I'm mad at you too
Because I let you play me
Like I'm some kind of fool
And you know I ain't a fool
But things are gonna change before too long
and here's the proof
'Cause I don't want to wait around just to learn
You've been untrue
Fare thee well
Good-bye
Here's mud in your eye
I'm done
Oh yes, I'm done
I'm so mad at my mom
And she's mad at me too
'Cause I never come home
When I'm done with school
(And I know I ain't a fool)
But things are gonna change before too long
and here's the proof
'Cause I don't want to wait around just to learn
That I've been duped
Oh Mom, please, won't you forgive me
I'm here!
I'm here for you
Love is a funny thing (Let's talk about cars)
I'm so mad at my car
It's mad at me too
'Cause I drive it so hard
And I never have it tuned
Oh I never have it tuned!
But I don't want to drive you into the ground oh it's true
Yeah I will change your oil and brake fluid before fall's through
Please forgive me
I'm on a new path
I'll wash you
Yeah, I'll give you a bath
(That's all I wanted to say, that's all I wanted to say.)
p.s. When I was a kid, my best friend’s dad was an insurance guy. At his house, if one were going to sketch or write things down, they had a closet full of paper pads that said “Let’s Talk About Cars” on them. I’m fairly certain that that’s what I was referencing in the song.
