Faux Friends,

It was just about a year ago that I posted “Give me a C,” where I talked about this new song that I was working on that I was excited about.

Good news: I’m still excited about it! Art is an amazing outlet, I tell you.

Three-hundred-and-eighty-some days later, I think I’ve got the lyrics down. (Slow and steady wins the race.)

I’ve released an a cappella version of the song on my BandCamp site, as a teaser of sorts. I wish you’d listen here in the player I’ve provided for you. (This is a weird one, btw.)

It’s a free country

I heard it said

that’s what they say

Poverty is the enemy (poverty poverty)

Hate is the enemy (gotta hate haters)

Greed is the enemy (don’t blame the 80s)

War is the enemy (more on that later)

Ignorance is the enemy (don’t be an idiot)

Lies are the enemy (let’s try to be honest)

Fascists are the enemy (nattering nabobs)

Intolerance is the enemy (Try to understand)

Nazis are the enemy

Racists are the enemy

So, as you can see

if you’re living in a free country

and you’re trying to live up to those ideals

there’s going to be a lot of enemies

but really, in a free country

shouldn’t you be able to go skinny dipping?

shouldn’t you be able to just take off your clothes

jump in the lake and NOT go to jail?

Come on, let’s go skinny-dipping!
