Faux Jean is a singer-songwriter from Duluth, Minn. Each week he adds a new song to an evolving record series over on Bandcamp and writes about it here. “From the Mixed Up Files of Mr. Matthew T. Schindler” is somewhere between a fake newsletter and a faux press release for the eponymous wabi-sabi private label album series that continues to evolve over there. Thanks for checking it out.
Faux Friends and Family—
Today’s song addition to the Mixed Up Files is a silly one, but I dig it in its way.
You can listen in the Bandcamp player below:
I’ve been walking a ton (see graphic above) and I am now home (see photo below).
I recorded this as a voice memo on June 9, 2019, using a Univox P-Bass knockoff and singing along with that straight into the built-in mic on the iPhone.
I then took that sound file and gussied it up a hair in Adobe Audition and here we are.
This may smack of minimum viable product, but the idea is there, and now my kids will sometimes say “veritably strutting” when we are walking home, and that’s enough for me.
My dear, gentle Mother-in-law gifted me the new Rick Rubin book for Father’s Day, and he talks about capturing stuff as it happens and the Source and suchlike—this jam fits into that construct.
I am still unpacking and must take leave in an urhasty manner, but alas . . .
I remain your humble servant,
OX&C,
Faux Jean
Here are the lyrics:
Walking home
veritably strutting
Walking home
Hands in pockets
You’ve got it going on
Walking home
You’ve got it going on
Veritably strutting
Hands in pockets
Your crew stays on point
Your shit is on point
Walking home
Walking home
Walking home
Excellent! Looking forward to reading that Rick Rubin book myself. I just listened to an interview with him about it the other day. https://onbeing.org/programs/rick-rubin-magic-everyday-mystery-and-getting-creative/
