Faux Friends,
Today I have added to the “Mixed Up Files” album a song demo that I recorded just six days after 9/11/2001.
The song is named after the glands that produce tears, and the lyrics were inspired in part by the entry in my old Webster’s dictionary for said glands, and in part by the fact that everyone seemed really freaked out and sad at that time.
The song is called “Lachrymal.”
Listen in either player below: (It is a loud and somewhat wild recording.)
This song was later recorded by the Faux Jean band and released as part of the Dead Lover album in 2003. It kicks ass, especially compared to the demo I made fresh out of the desert. That’s Gene Wire on lead guitar.
I was lucky enough to miss the whole 9/11 television trauma, as my father had taken my brother and me away from society and into the Grand Canyon for a whitewater rafting adventure with no radios, TVs, or cell phones for the week of 9/11.
When we came out of the canyon, my fellow Americans were really sad.
Some were really pissed.
Some had what seemed like PTSD.
The television news had stopped showing the footage of the planes crashing into buildings and I didn’t feel compelled to seek it out.
I tried to wrap my head around what watching the television for 3 days and being exposed to such horror might do to re-wire a brain.
Still trying to wrap my head around it.
I remain your humble servant,
OX&C
Faux Jean
Here are the lyrics:
Why am I so sad?
In the upper outer angle of the orbit
they are two and lord how they are suffering
they have made a place for themselves where they can
make manifest all the sadness that you possess
Why am I so sad
Why am I lachrymal
