Faux Hot August Friends,
A long time ago I had an idea for a song that would include the words:
“Rage against Rage Against for the sake of.”
This is the germ of that jam.
You can listen to it for free right now in the player above.1
Here are the lyrics for now:
Bang your head
Rage against Rage against
Bang your head
For the sake of
Do what you do
All of the time
Bang your head
Rage against
For the sake of raging out
Bang your head
Bang your head
Bang
Bang
Bang your bang your bang your heart
Do what you do
Do it for love
Do what you do
You did it for love
You moved away
And there you were
You banged your head
You banged your head
You banged your head
This song exists in a folder on my computer called “2022 Long Player Hopefuls.” There are 39 sub-folders within this folder, each one containing a song idea in various levels of development.2
When a song has reached a point where I think it sounds kind of cool (like this one), I export a rough mix to another sub-folder called “rough earlies.” I then export that version to my phone and then listen in the car.3
I liked this one enough to share it with y’all in this nascent state, despite the fact that my daughter thinks there’s “way to much echo on the vocals.” :)
I might have to change the name of that folder to to “2023 Long Player Hopefuls,” but of course, I’ll keep you posted.
Speaking of banging your head, I should say that I never went in for heavy metal.
I was over in the rem/replacements/dylan/prince camp.
I understand the appeal of metal, I suppose.4 But the trappings of metal, not so much.
I’d rather be a singing cowboy if you’re going to put me in a box to reach a demographic.
You can bang your head pretty well to Chronic Town in my opinion, but really it starts in the hips.
I have two kids home sick from school today, as they were yesterday, so I can understand the urge to bang one’s head.5 And I hope you thusly understand the brevity of this epistle, as I remain your humble servant,
OX&C,
Faux Jean
If you listen to the song more than 3 times, Bandcamp chimes in and suggests you should pay something at that point, but the first few are free, there is nothing to download, no cavity search etc.
My hope was to get a ten or 11 song album of fully-fleshed-out jams done by the end of the year from this folder.
A 2013 Kia Soul in the color of beige, if you’re wondering.
Like, life is hard sometimes, so let us channel all of our anger into this art.
At least it’s not Covid.
