Faux Friends,
I am so psyched to announce that today marks the beginning of Volume 8 of “From the Mixed Up Files of Mr. Matthew T. Schindler.”
Here is the cover for the new album:1
Each week through Spring of 2024, I will add a new song to the album and veritably blurb it here while commenting on various aspects of my creative journey.
The first song is near and dear to my heart, and I hope you will listen to it here:
I recorded this in Feb/March of 1998—so 26 years ago? It was a fruitful month, as evidenced by the song listing on the cassette folder:
I look forward to sharing more songs from this tape moving forward, as well as other ideas captured in other formats.2
The tagline for the album is “In a fit of masochism.”
Some time ago, my wife asked me what motivated me to write songs, and I told her I try not to analyze too much, but rather just respond to the force to create.
However, on the specific tape from which today’s song is taken, I announce that I am going to record a new version of Bumble Bee and then note that I am doing so “in a fit of masochism.”
So there it is plainly laid out, my motivation is a form of masochism.
Sharing that here is a form of catharsis.
I must be the luckiest man alive, because my children have two weeks off from school for Spring Break and I am the stay-at-home type dad (who sneaks out to work at night) and golly, what do you guys want to do today?
That is to say, I must tend to my flock and save the story about the actual Chartreuse Skirt for another edition of FTMUFOMMTS.
I remain your humble servant,
OX&C,
Faux Jean
I am a big believer in pretty flowers, and I was getting a little tired of looking at my own face…
I should note that I did not have a cell phone to distract me at the time I recorded all of these ideas on tape, but I also did not have a cell phone to help me jot ideas down.
YES!! I've been hankerin' to hear this song, but lost the album somewhere in Savannah. Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this!!!
