Faux Leaning Humans,
The song that I have added this week to “From the Mixed Up Files of Mr. Matthew T. Schindler, Vol 2” is called “The Sad Sick Ache (five six o eight).”1
You can listen to it here in the Substack player as an mp3:
Or you can listen to it here as a wav file via BandCamp:
I think this is a pop-rock song.
The last iteration of the Faux Jean band played this song live but we never got around to recording it.2
We broke up in 2007, if memory serves.
I recorded this by myself after the breakup to cheer myself up.
But it didn’t really work that way.
The lyrics are way below.
In other news, I cranked out this video for last week’s song addition to FTMUFOMMTS: (Smash that like button.)
My daughter heard my voice coming through the headphones while I was editing3 this old iphone video footage and she said “Let me hear it from the top," as she commandeered the headphones I was wearing.
When she heard my opening falsetto voice crack, she ripped off the headphones and said:
“You need to fix that!”
She then proceeded to create the image at the top of this letter and tried to walk me through exercises that will improve my vocal performances.4
Now I must pick her up and take her to dance class, so I bid you adieu, while remaining your humble servant,
OX&C,
Faux Jean
lyrics for “The Sad Sick Ache (five six o eight)
Don't you care?!!
Don't you?!
Don't you?!
Don't you care?!!
The sad sick ache
that could be fake
or true as in love
what will it take
to know?
And not to know is more than you bear
even more than you care to take
And so you walk away
to the sad sick ache
to the sad sick ache
that could be fake
that could be fate
Don't walk away from love
Don't walk away
Don't walk away from love
Don't walk away
So few things are true
and if you don't make them
they just go away
like love and fate
(like love and fate)
(like love and fate)
Destiny, we had a date!
A time and place
cold street and late
so far from fate
and so good-bye good night good-bye good night
alone you go
turn and walk away
to the sad sick ache
that could be fake
it could be fate
you wanted fate
Don't walk away from love
Don't walk away
Don't walk away from love
Don't walk away
keep your heart upright and true
endeavor to in everything
and love will be your fate
Love will be your fate
Don't walk away from love
Don't walk away
Don't walk away from love
Don't walk away
Don't walk away
(Don't you dare to walk away!)
Don't walk away
(Don't you dare to walk away!)
Don't walk away
Don't you dare
Don't you care?
Don't walk away
Destiny, we had a date!
Don't you care?
If you haven’t voted, go do that first and then listen.
The song was recorded on May 6, 2008 using GarageBand. I can't remember if I'd purchased a usb mic for recording by this time or not. It is possible this was recorded directly into the built-in mic on a Macbook.
I use the term edit lightly.
(I had pulled up the Beatles “Revolver” reissue to show her that even great bands like the Beatles were releasing less-than-perfect demos nowadays; that’s how “Yellow Submarine” got into the image.)
