Faux Sugar Plum Fairies,
What kind of fool releases an album on Christmas Eve with only one song on it that doesn't even have anything to do with Christmas?!
Faux Jean does, that's who.
Today, of course, marks the beginning of Volume Eleven of "From the Mixed Up Files of Mr. Matthew T. Schindler," and a new song will be added to the album each Tuesday as the season evolves through to the Equinox.1
We are still in Singing Cowboy mode, which we do for the children, of course.
Kicking off Volume Eleven is a brand new song called “Faux Jean’s 112th Dream,” which came to me out of nowhere last week (December 15, 2024).
Well, I shouldn’t say it came out of nowhere—it obviously pays homage to another “singing cowboy type” from Duluth MN, Bob Dylan, and his song “Bob Dylan’s 115th Dream.”2
Listen to the song in the player below:
My song is a lot shorter than Bob’s, and I just made up the words on the spot when I hit record, no typewriters involved on this one.
Not yet.
Here are the Lyrics for the song:
I had a dream
I shit you not
and when I finally woke up
I swear to God
the earth was upside down
you could not tell
it still seemed round
and it was spinnin'
on its axis fine and everybody
was having a good time
for the most part
She was my girl
then she went away
but where'd she go?
she would not say
let's just say
to the other side
and once there
she could not hide
her feelings had
changed something fierce
and I'd let her in
how'd I let her in?
oh I don't really know
And in this dream
I was alone
in a little room
I called my home
I pay my rent
for the most part on time
and I try to be refined
and I lost my head
but not my mind
and I walked away
The world it seemed
right side up
I shit you not
can't make it up
the way it goes
the way it stays
I was alone for a thousand days
I was alone
Alone
I was alone
I don’t want to keep you from your presents though, now, so I'll peace out and drop a note and a song on New Year’s Eve to say good-bye to this thing we’ve been calling 2024.
I remain your humble servant,
OX&C,
Faux Jean
I add a new song every Tuesday and the album volume changes with the Solstice and the Equinox, and this one happens to fall on XMAS Eve—crazytown, right?
I’m excited to see this new Dylan movie and hope it inspires young people to listen to “The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan” and “Bringing it All Back Home” a million times like I have, so songs like “Faux Jean’s 112th Dream” will make perfect sense in their nonsense.
