What about now?

Faux Nutters,

I was talking to a friend about how I’m releasing all of these old demos here on the “Mixed Up Files” and how this backward-looking-ness kind of freaks me out because I want to get new music out this year, and my friend said:

“What about now, Faux?!”

Last week’s song was 20 years old, the one before that was 12 years old. We’ve gone back as far as 1989 dredging up old cassettes to share here.

What about now?

This week, I am happy to report that I’ve written a brand new song and demo-ed it for your listening pleasure here today.

The original idea came to me as an improv on February 10, and then I recorded the above version last week, on Thursday, February 15, 2024.

I had to listen to the original improv and try to figure out what I did to make the lyric sheet for this demo.

I love it when a song just kind of spills out and then you can go back and try to figure out what you said without really thinking or planning.¹

This may be because I’m lazy.

Path-of-least-resistance vibes, for sure.

To make this recording, I used this Yamaha keyboard (that our nice Ukranian neighbor lady gave me when I told her I was a musician) for its drum machine capabilities and ran my Danelectro through my kid’s amp, and then sang along and recorded it all into a single microphone at the same time. Capo on the 4th fret.

I’m going to use this demo as a framework for a more fleshed out version moving forward.

And now I’ve got 4 loads of laundry to put away and I’ve got a sick kid at home, so I best get to tending to that business.
