Hello Fauxs,
We are walking it back to 20061 for today’s addition to the “Mixed Up Files” album.
I recorded “Tired of Tryin’ Blues” in the warehouse I lived in up there in Northeast Minneapolis.
Pretty sure I recorded this without microphones.
That is, I had a laptop with a built-in mic and just put the computer on the floor in front of the drum kit etc. and played at the QWERTY.2
I played this demo for Mike Lopez (aka Faux Suede) at the time, and he said it was a “great demo.” He could be brutally honest, so this was very exciting to me.
And yet, I’ve let 17 years elapse without creating a decent studio recording of this song. Hmmm.
I’ve been busy, I guess?
Here is a version I recorded last week on the gram (live) and subsequently posted to Yow-Tub, as my son pronounces it. :)
This song was inspired by a rant that Lonnie went on out back by the woodshed at Campiello3, circa 1997.
Lonnie was super pissed about Marv Albert, who had recently been accused of sexual assault and was in the news for it.
According to the news, Marv had bitten the butt of his accuser and demanded oral.
This infuriated Lonnie.
The resultant rant supplied certain lyrics for this song.
It was always good Craic hanging with Lonnie out back by the woodshed.
Lonnie knew we are deeply flawed creatures, and you should always have consent before you do anything to anyone!
I remain your humble servant,
OX&C,
Faux Jean
BTW: Friday March 3 2023 is “Bandcamp Friday” where they waive their fees and give everything to the artist if you are so inclined…
Here are the Lyrics:
Tired of trying blues
baby tired of trying
baby tired of pain
baby tried a suitcase
baby try to can of paint
baby tried a can of the good stuff
the good ship lollipop
we’re all little devils
in our roles as earthly things
we’ve all got our demons
we’ve all got our dreams
Cling to those dreams and they’ll keep you up all night
that’s all right cause when you wake up you won’t remember a word
We all crave it
we all needs it too.
So said my guy Lonnie
He was talking about love out back by the woodshed
It’s always good Craic with Lonnie
Till he gets a little mad
It’s always good Craic with Lonnie
Till he gets so very mad.
“Can you believe the nerve!?”
Baby tired of trying
Baby’s got the tired of trying blues
and it’s a real kick
it’s a real snare
and it’s a real floor
and it’s a real door.
You can walk out anytime you want
can you believe the nerve?
Which lies somewhere between ancient history and yesterday.
This qualifies as Lo-Fi.
Campiello was a restaurant I worked at in Uptown Minneapolis in the 90s. There was a little woodshed out back where folks would take smoke breaks and shoot the breeze. It was good craic being back there. Lonnie was a dishwasher who had a lot of wisdom to share.
Tired of Tryin' Blues
Thanks David!
Apple should have marketed a proprietary “built-in mic stereo” sound perhaps?
Quite enjoyable stereo sound through my earphones considering how you recorded it. Definitely a lost Faux classic.
