I am adding a song to the “Mixed Up Files” today that is very near to my heart.
The song is called “Another Day in Paradise.” (Listen in the player below.)
This song started coming to me at the end of 2019.
My daughter insisted on making a video of me playing this nascent idea on December 10, 2019, which I posted to Instagram.
I then worked on the arrangement etc for a month or two and made this version on March 18, 2020, just as the pandemic was becoming a thing.
I recorded this on my phone in our apartment in Madison, WI (God’s Country, if you will).1
My daughter is in the background listening to something on her device and can be heard “Shushing” me and pleading with me to “Please stop!” at the one minute mark.
#pandemicLife
I have subsequently recorded a fairly kick-ass hi-fi version of this song and plan to release it upon the world at some point in the not-too-distant future.
But for now, the version on Bandcamp, which was ripped from the phone video and tweaked in Adobe Audition, will have to suffice.
Thanks for listening, friend!
I remain your humble servant,
Faux Jean
Here are the lyrics:
Another Day in Paradise
Another day in Paradise
I held your hand it was so nice
to be walking
on the ice
On a frozen lake in Paradise
On a frozen lake in Paradise
I held your hand
And it seemed so nice
Just to be alive
Another Day in Paradise
Another day in Paradise
It was so magical
and nice
to be dancing with you
On a frozen lake in Paradise
The snow came down
We danced all night
and you said "You know,
I never want this night to end!”
I said "I can't stop time but
I'm always going to be your friend in Paradise!" (SHHH! Please stop)
Another Day in Paradise
Another day in Paradise
It was so magical
Your eyes
Were like Heaven
So close to mine
We touched tongues in Paradise
You tripped me up, I fell
We hit the ice
And you laughed so loud
When you rubbed a snowball in my face
And you challenged me, you said:
"Baby, do you want to race?"
In Paradise . . .
Note the March snow on the trees outside our window.
While I was working on this song, I went for a walk and spied a couple kind of making out slash wrestling on frozen Lake Mendota and felt like it was a good omen.
