Faux Jean is a singer-songwriter from Duluth, Minn. Each week he adds a new song to an evolving record series over on Bandcamp and writes about it here. “From the Mixed Up Files of Mr. Matthew T. Schindler” is somewhere between a fake newsletter and a faux press release for the eponymous wabi-sabi private label album series that continues to evolve over there. Thanks for checking it out.
Dear Fauxs,
I have yet to unpack my computer and so today’s newsletter and the accompanying song addition to the Mixed Up Files come from my iPad1, which yielded this jam:
My ego would be gratified if you would listen to this during your workout today, as it does bump in that way.
It’s got a bit of a Fine Young Cannibals vibe to it.
I created this on July 27, 2021 without any guitar or vocals, just trying to experiment and learn how to use the GarageBand app on iOS.
I even watched a tutorial on how to automate a fade out for this version.
The iOS app is an amazing creative tool and one I wish I’d had in 1993, but not completely.
Rick Rubin says “lower the stakes” & “The work is not about perfection.”
This song checks those boxes.
My daughter, playing in a cardboard box nearby as I listened to this, said “People are not going to like this.”
And that’s okay!
That is a very freeing thought.
Back to unpacking.
I remain your humble servant,
OX&C,
FAUX JEAN
Feels a little weird not being on the iMac . . .
Like mushrooms, onions, mustard, green peppers and other various foods that kids don't like, your daughter could enjoy this delicious song, over time, as her taste buds develop <3
