Down to the Well (Tyler Street Demo)

And a trip to the cemetery

When I was a little kid, sometimes my grandparents would visit from their farm in Northern Wisconsin, and I’d have to go share a bed with my brother so they could sleep in my bed for a night or two.

After they’d leave and I’d return to my bed, I would relish the smell they left behind.

I remember burying my face in the pillow where my Grandmother had been and inhaling as deeply as I could.

After my Grandfather passed, I got one of his old fedoras and I’d do the same thing, bury my face in it and try to breathe him back into my life.

I was a sensitive boy—probably still am.

I visited their grave while I was in Northern Wisconsin this past week, and I talk about it in the video above, as well as the song that I released today over on Bandcamp, as I do every gosh darn Tuesday.

Below are some images from my trip North and my return to the border of Mexico.

Here is today’s song (give it a listen, eh?):

I remain your humble servant,

A trip to the cemetery to beat back the moss and lichen.
blurry buck moon over Lake Superior.
Prince’s handwritten lyrics to “The Ballad of Dorothy Parker” peeped at the Prince Store at the MSP airport. One of my favorite songs ever.
A pineapple on the table that spoke to me somehow.
A thousand-footer coming through the canal as viewed from the elders’ iMac.
obligatory airport wing photo with the sun setting on the empire.

Back at home, making the sausage.

Here are the lyrics for today’s song:

For water we used to go down to the well
Now it's off to the corner store, what the hell?
Or at a gas station at three in the morn
when you're coming home from work
and you're all ripped and torn!

I wish we still had time to go to the well
Where the water's sweet and spirited as hell
And we'll get drunk on water like wine
We'll get drunk and have a good time
At the well
At the well
At the well I saw her dip her bucket deep
At the well we got ourselves in such a ball
Oh well
They don't know what the well can do for you
The well can do for me
You know the water's pure
the water's sweet
the water's sweet
the water's sweet
the water's sweet
